I can't FTP mail anymore. How can I download and upload files. I have a MAC G4 with OS X version 3.

How do I stop all the spam I am getting?

How can I reset/change my password for my mail.rochester.edu account?

I cannot receive e-mails, and every so often I get this error message on the sidebar were the links to the inbox and other parts of this service stating that I have not submitted a password. This error is obviously false because if I had not submitted a password then no mail would show-up, but mail does show up along with the error. How can I fix this?

I have graduated and no longer use this e-mail account. What is the process for closing my UR e-mail account?

When I checked my email, I found that the fonts had changed sizes. It went from normal 12 pt to a huge 14 pt font. How can I change it back?

I currently have my webmail account setup to automatically foward my e-mail to another account. How do you stop the forwarding?

I got an email saying that the sender received an email from me containing the virus. Does that mean that my computer is infected? If so, what should I do?

You can access your FTP folders via WebRFM. For more information on WebRFM please go to http://mail.rochester.edu/ scroll down to the File Management Tools.

How do I stop all the spam I am getting?

Spamassassin is a spam tagging option available to the UR mail users. If you choose to opt in to use the spam tagging option it may help clear up the receipt of spam in your inbox. If set up properly, spamassassin will rank and tag the incoming spam and move it to a separate folder automatically for later review. The downside to this option is that this program does use your .forward file in your account so any forwarding addresses you currently have set up will no longer work.

You can find out more about spam and spamassasin by checking out the following UR website:

http://www.rochester.edu/its/email/spam/index.html

We are also current doing testing a a program called Pure Message. This program would catch incoming spam at the gate and put it in a holding area. This will be an opt-in feature when it becomes available.

For now Spamassassin is the option of choice.

How can I reset/change my password for my mail.rochester.edu account?

You may be able to change your password online at http://mail.rochester.edu providing you know your old password. Click the "Change your password online" link located in the Email Tools section.

If for some reason you were unable to change your password using the link or you do not know your old password, and you are local to UR then you will need to come to the ITS Center to have your password reset.

Unfortunately, if the password change link does not work and you are not local to the UofR then you must use the long distance form. You will find this form on the web at www.rochester.edu/its/forms/ Click the Password Reset Link then click the Long Distance Reset Request Form link. Use of this form will require a notary public signature. Please follow all of the instructions completely.

Large folders sometimes can cause Webmail to have functionality problems. I think a good place to start would be is to see if you can eliminate any un-needed email from both of those folders. If this does not work that I would like to reset your Webmail configuration files.

If I reset the config files you will be prompted on your next successful login, to save your config files. All you would need to do is click the save button. No adjustments are needed to the files. I tell users ahead of time so they are not surprised when the config screen pops up when they try to access their account.

Please try the clearing of your large folders first. If this does not remedy the problem contact me and I will proceed to do the config reset.

I have graduated and no longer use this e-mail account. What is the process for closing my UR e-mail account?

Send a request to problem@mail.rochester.edu. The Unix consultant will then expire your account.

If you are using Webmail then there is a chance that your browser settings are what has changed. There will be settings within the browser, most likely a settings tab in the toolbar, for setting the screen/pixal or font size.

I currently have my email account setup to automatically forward my e-mail to another account. How do you stop the forwarding?

You can go back to mail.rochester.edu and click the "Forward your Email" link located under Email Tools. Once you put you username and password in and submit you will see an interface that will allow you to remove forwarding.

I got an email saying that the sender received an email from me containing the virus. Does that mean that my computer is infected? If so, what should I do?

You are the reciprient of emails that were infected. Most likely if your virus scanning software is not detecting this virus on your computer you are not infected. If the emails are coming through the mail server than the bad attachments should be being stripped out before you receive the email.

Make sure your virus scanning software and windows software are up to date!

Your address was harvested by the worm. That is why your you are receiving emails from the mailer daemon, telling you about viruses that were attached to messages you supposedly sent. If your computer is working fine than you should be ok.
