Lately I've had the strangest combinations of sounds between my ears. I've always been a schizophrenic listenter, effortlessly and alarmingly jumping from Guns'N Roses to Nat King Cole, then on to Phil Collins, Queen to Miles Davis, then on to Eminem, a detour for some Josquin and then back to Beyonce, Harry Nilsson and Diana Krall. So lately among the songs I've been listening to have been:

Peter Gabriel - I grieve. So amazingly beautiful.

Walking on Sunshine - Ally and Aj. Mostly Arianna's song, she loves to dance on it. (makes me dance, too)

Jackson - Johnny and June Cash. Also, Folsom Prison Blues, Daddy Sang Bass, A boy named Sue.

Andy Williams - Charade, More, Theme from Love Story, Moon River.

Lisa Levine - Mi Sheberach. I LOVE that song, it has been stuck in my head for three days straight. Also, Shur's Yihiu L'ratzon for guitar and voice. I am always really glad to hear it at TBK.

Ravi Shankar - Raga Paraj, Raga Bahar, Raga Rasiya, and Tala Farodast mostly.

and of course, lots lots lots of Laurie Berkner, Music Together and various other kiddie musics my girl demands any given day.

(and of course the music I've talked about before - below.)

I've been listening to a lot of Sade. I've always loved her, but for some reason I've been on a Sade kick lately, even more so than usual . Mostly her album "Lovers Rock". I am usually the type of person to never like all the songs in an album, which is why itunes is perfect for me - I just pay for what I like. This time, though I bought the album and I am so glad I did. I love every song in it. Although "Flow", "The Sweetest Gift", "King of Sorrow" are really beautiful, "It's only love that gets you through" is just my favorite - it is an amazing song on so many levels.. No one should have to live without having known the beauty of Sade's music..

"Continuum" by John Mayer. I love "Stop this Train" "Slow Dancing in a Burning room", and "Dreaming with a broken heart" but "Gravity" is still my favorite.

Good ole Gipsy Kings. You'd think I'd get tired of them by now - I've only been listening to their music since I was a little kid, but nope. "Vamos a Bailar", "Bamboleo", "Djobi Djoba", "Soy" and "Baila Me" are fantastic. Their music can really change my day from blah to dancing in my car. They'll never get old to me, I think.

"Clocks" by Coldplay. One of my students is playing it and it's been stuck in my head for weeks. Listening to it is the only way to get it out. Arianna loves it too, she hums along and even asks for it.

My one-and-only Ella. "The Rogers and Hammerstein songbook" volume 1. "Have you met Miss Jones", "The Lady is a Tramp" and "Little Girl Blue" on her softer side. Oh, and "It never entered my mind" , of course.

Edith Piaf - I happened to watch a bunny video on youtube once and it had "Non, je ne regrette rien" as background music. I went on itunes and downloaded it, along with "La vie en rose". Reminds me of when I was a little girl - I always wished I could roll my "r"s with that French "r" like she did. Still can't. :)

Mary J Blige - "Reflections". Love the whole album - again one of those rare occasions. I like "No more drama" and "Reflections" best. She is such a huge talent, it's amazing people don't appreciate her more (they are getting there, very slowly though!)

I've been staying away from classical. I want it away from me for a while. I still will break down and listen to some Mozart and Mahler every once in a while.

And of course, Dora Music, Backyardigans "Into the thick of it" (!), The Wonder Pets music and some Laurie Berkner.
