         >Hello, Trulie.
         >Happy New Year.
         >At I pm today, January 11, I met with Dr. Connett, chair of the biology department. He advised
me that earlier this week the biology department sent an official proposal to the college curriculum
office requesting a change in the college curriculum for those students with religious objections to
animal dissection. The process is that the curriculum office and the curriculum committee will review
the matter and, if it finds it acceptable, it will send it to the full Faculty Senate for voting. After the
Senate passes a curriculum revision, the policy is sent to the Academic vice president and to the
         State University of New York.
         >As you can see, the process is long and attenuated. Curriculum revision is a matter which is taking
         seriously.
         >I am happy to report that this semester, no students have asked for a waiver of animal dissection
so the lack of a completed policy has not been an obstacle.
         >
         >If and when the policy is finalized, I will send you a copy.
         >
         >I had no luck first semester organizing a forum on this topic which I attribute to the student body's
concern over the September terrorist attacks. In fact, nearly all college programming was focused
on the social, moral and political effects of the terrorism. I hope to organize a forum this semester.
         >
         >Lastly, we submitted the article co-authored by you and Prof. Connett for publication to the
Monroe Doctrine which has not yet printed it. Again, the paper's focus has been on the terrorist
         attacks.
         >
         >Coincidentally, today at 1:30, I received a call from Professor Francione of Rutgers. He suggested
that Nathan was interested in the progress of the revised policy. Please feel free to inform him of this
         email.
         >
         >If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know.
         >
         >Best wishes with you studies.
